[xwiki-devs] GSoC 2008 : Web Services integration for XWiki Watch
Hi all I'm a final year Computer Science and Engineering student of University of Moratuwa Sri lanka and i thought i should give a try at GSoC 2008 under web service integration for XWiki watch. I have experience in Java with Spring / Hibernate / JMX /JSF (i learnt these during my internship) and i was able to go through the web services specially with axis2 during the final year project rather than X-fire web service implementation. According to the idea published, our final year project also have some common areas. According to that, we have already implemented the web service integration for publishing different services to a middle ware dynamically. Therefore, i think i have a great opportunity of making this project idea into a concrete implementation during 3 months by using all my computer knowledge in different areas. And i would like to discuss the implementation of this idea and about the requirements with the mentors ( Anca Paula Luca & Jerome Velociter ). I'm really interested in doing this project. Please reply to me to discuss the relevant facts about this project. Thank you very much. regards, Suramya -- Suramya Rathnayake Computer Science and Engineering University of Moratuwa http://suramya-rathnayake.blogspot.com/
hi, I'm new to XWiki and i thought to carryout the XWiki watch integration with web services. Currently I have downloaded the XWiki watch source and i need to build it. But i was unable to find the Maven correct version. Can you please tell me the exact version(1.1 or 2.0). It will be very much helpful for me to carry out the design of the GSoc project. regards, Suramya Rathnayake On Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 1:50 PM, Suramya Rathnayake < suramya.rathnayake@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Suramya, we are happy to see you interested in this project. The web services component of our proposal refers more to using the existing web 2.0 services and integrating them with XWiki Watch rather than implementing new ones, and not always the classical SOA way: we could be talking about REST-style web services. So, there are a few points where our student needs to be strong: - he / she has to be able to use existing third-party services: using APIs from different services in efficient manner and with good learning curve - he / she has to make a good call on the opportunity of choosing one or another of the available options (we could also have our word to say from the products' point of view) - he / she has to have a good overall view of the product and its needs and of today's web opportunities and be creative about the combination of the two (this point indeed involves a lot from our side too, we should be able to provide the necessary information on our products). You can join our IRC channel and have a 'synchronous' discussion there with me and / or Jerome about this project and have answers to all your questions. Happy coding, Anca
