[xwiki-users] What To Download & Use???
I am new to wiki style building, have knowledge and experience with WP, Drupal, and Joomla. I want to stop using WP for my employer's intranet and start using xWiki. My questions are... Should I use a standalone install on a server and share the IP with all the uers through Group Policy? OR Do I use the .war install on a server? Also, i install the standalone on my personal laptop and was wondering in either scenario listed above, does anything need to be installed on all client workstations? Thanks! -- View this message in context: http://xwiki.475771.n2.nabble.com/What-To-Download-Use-tp7586537.html Sent from the XWiki- Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
Hi! Standalone install is useful to "play in sandbox" scenario: it uses HSQLDB an keeps all data in memory. For production purposes one can use any supported database and container/web server. All clients will have to have any browser to use XWiki. Воскресенье, 4 августа 2013, 13:24 -07:00 от xMatter <jgbower@live.com>:

Kind regards, Dmitry
I thank you for your quick response. Since this is completely new, I don't want to be that guy that asks all the questions and not read the instructions. I have read most instructions, but still I a little confused. I noticed the standalone was a prepackaged deal. Is the .war the same? For all my WP intranets, I used WAMP an PHPmyAdmin. Is that what I can use for this wiki? Or is it prepackaged like the standalone? -- View this message in context: http://xwiki.475771.n2.nabble.com/What-To-Download-Use-tp7586537p7586539.htm... WAR = XWiki + default settings of XWiki Standalone = XWiki + default settings of XWiki + preconfigured HSQLDB + Jetty XWiki is Java based application, so depending on your requirements, for production you will have to: - install and set up database - install and set up Java - install and set up container, e.g. Tomcat - install and set up OpenOffice (if needed) - install and set up web server in front of container, e.g. nginx, apache, lighttpd etc., (if needed) Look at http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Installation http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/InstallationWAR or deb package installation http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/InstallationViaAPT IMHO, you won't need PHPmyAdmin at all.
