I decided not to follow a trial an error path, and I'm here asking for some guide or guidelines to do this upgrade, or in case such a thing doesn't exists beg for some help from you all, and as a thanks gift offer to publish a mini howto for upgrading XWiki from v0.9.x to 1.1.

There is no specific upgrade tutorial yet for upgrading from 0.9.x to 1.1. It would be nice to have one though so we'd be happy to work with you to get one written. Thanks for the offer. To get started did you check the release notes for all the version from your version up to 1.1? The upgrade instructions are contained in each release notes. What we haven't done yet (and we should probably do it - feel free to modify the release notes to do this if you want) is to aggregate the upgrade instructions so that users don't have to look into each release note. It's also very possible that some upgrade instructions are missing from place to place so we need to work this out together. Let us know precisely what error you're now getting. I also know that some users have upgraded to 1.1 from 0.9. Thanks -Vincent

Hi Victor you should start by looking at this: http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Installation Now I have the same problem as you have. Here are the issues I see: - the 0.9 database schema is not compatible with latest 1.1.1 (though connecting 1.1rc2 to the 0.9 database works provided that you applied the fix you refered too). - You can export you 0.9 wiki pages by copying the script available at http://old.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Test/ImportExport . It allows you to create a .xar (zip formatted) package containing all your wiki - Alternatively you can connect a 1.1 wiki to the 0.9 database (provided you applied your fix), import the appropriate pages if necessary and export using the 1.1 export feature. It will create the xar package containing ALL your wiki pages and I don't see how to select only a few pages. As far as I can see this method is equivalent to the one above and the outcome is the same. - I tried a fresh installation: 1) create the database in MySQL (leave it empty) by following to the letter the excellent tutorial from the URL above; 2) connect you 1.1.1 wiki to this new database and it will create all the tables for you; 3) proceed with the tutorial and import all the pages you need (I recommand at least Panels.xar); 3) Now we have a problem: importing .xar packages coming from a 0.9 wiki does not work. This is where I am stuck. If you know the end of the story, I'd like to hear it ;-) I hope that could help to some extent... Marc

Do I need Admin rights to run this tool ?? I created a new page and copy&paste the code, it showed all the space in my wiki but nothing happened (a continuous 'No selected documents to export'appears in the right panel) TIA -- Víctor A. Good news !!! I've successfully upgraded, in a test machine, following the guidelines on http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Installation#HInstallingtheXW... plus some other details (port change, some missing plug-ins and no templates migration). Please let us know how you solved the last pieces of the puzzle.. Basically the trick was to follow the instructions inside http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Installation#HInstallingtheXW... (installing Tomcat 6 and MySQL 5.0), with this plus:

* change the port number * add MySQL JDBC driver to xwiki * transfer database using mysqldump o modify the XWD_ARCHIVE field o give permissions to xwiki user * copy WEB-INF/xwiki.cfg and WEB-INF/hibernate.cfg.xml from the old to the new server * delete the templates from the new version and copy there the old ones instead * delete the albatross skin and copy the default skin (from XWiki 0.9) to the skins/albatross folder Wit these steps you can run your wiki on top of v1.1. The problem with this procedure is that many v1.1 features are implemented in the core, but not used because the templates are the v0.9 ones.
