[xwiki-devs] [Colibri Skin] Color Themes
Hi, The new XWiki 2.0 Skin (Colibri) will let you easily change the colors using a ColorTheme Class done by Marta. Here are some examples of theme customization: http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/download/ColorThemes/DefaultColorThem... Default) http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/download/ColorThemes/AColorTheme/Sche...) http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/download/ColorThemes/BColorTheme/Sche...) http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/download/ColorThemes/CColorTheme/Sche...) http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/download/ColorThemes/DColorTheme/Sche...) http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/download/ColorThemes/EColorTheme/Sche...) After XWiki's Colibri release would be nice to have a gallery with themes submitted by the community. Thanks, Caty
Can we vote on the default one ? Ludovic Ecaterina Valica a écrit :

yes you can vote on the default one, or even can propose another. But the default version should be basic. This week I won't have time to focus more on Color Themes, because we need to polish the skin, but would be great to see other proposals for predefined themes. Hi Cati and all, I'm ok for the default theme you proposed but I have 2 color problems with it: - The link color is really "alien" compared to the rest. I think a blue color like the one in BlueSky for the links would be better - The contrast between the white and the light grey seems not enough for my eyes. For ex in the top level menu, it's really hard to read the white text on the light gray background Thanks -Vincent On Mon, Aug 24, 2009 at 10:15 PM, Ecaterina Valica<valicac@gmail.com> wrote:

I can only say : "I like : Default, A, C and E with single colone." This makes me thinking that colors are always so personal. Maybe an interesting thing can be to vote on some colors? So that XWiki could propose users themes colors that are nearest to a majority. Maybe once the color editor will be on rails to help produce color themes?

http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/download/ColorThemes/DefaultColorThem... Maybe it is screen calibration? Dealing with MedianGrey/White contrast is always dificult. Many people like it for its softness, yet it can endanger accessibility. In an other way, it can be a problem for visually impaired people too. It could calibration even though I had changed my gammas on my mac to the same as on windows. So I'm pretty sure I'm seeing what the majority of people will see. I agree it's safer to be slightly darker for the default theme to prevent this problem (maybe not much is needed). The flashy turquoise color the link is a bit too much though. Something softer like the blue in BlueSky for links might be nice. Thanks -Vincent

There are 2 things that will help address those concerns: - An user will be able to select his favorite skin in his profile. This skin will be used each time he views a page in the wiki - New skins will be easy to create and existing skins easy to edit using the color theme builder Therefore it will pretty easy for anyone to get the colors she likes best applied to the wiki. @Vincent, if you want a perfect skin calibration you need a special device ("une sonde" in french). Yet it's not the problem. Comercial screens are rarely calibrated correctly and some people are visually impared so it is a good idea to use a color that have a good contrast. @Guillaume, I'm not sure many users will use personalisation. The easy skin creation is a good idea. Proposing colors thems that fit a majority may be good or people that get angoissed about color choice. Could be maid among time by vote on skins. Well, it is an idea. ;-) 2009/8/27 Guillaume Lerouge <guillaume@xwiki.com>

Very cool Cati, how easy is to create a color theme? Will be able to offer a simple UI for it or is it still too complex and the user will need to know CSS? Can we bundle all themes in 2.0? If so, how do we let the user choose a theme? Using the "Default Stylesheet" field in the Presentation section of the Admin? Something else? Well, that's the object, http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/ColorThemes/AColorTheme Edit inline should just give you the form. I don't know details about applying them but color schemes seem quite easy to create (you just need to "see" hexa colors ;) ).

My bad, I forgot to copy some files when doing the upgrade to 2.0M3 on the incubator. Inline editing should now display color pickers for all fields, so you don't even need to "see" hexcolors. Wow, that's really cool :) Do we have an idea how/where we'd like to integrate this color scheme screen in the default XE? A customize link next to the Skin in the Presentation admin screen? Do we have a solution for not hardcoding this link? Thanks -Vincent

I added a new field to the XWikiPreferences class (colorTheme) which allows to select (from a <select> element) the color theme to use (at the space and wiki level). Also adding it to the Presentation admin section, below the Skin field. -- Sergiu Dumitriu http://purl.org/net/sergiu/

Very cool Cati, how easy is to create a color theme?
Will be able to offer a simple UI for it or is it still too complex and the user will need to know CSS? Well, that's the object, http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/ColorThemes/AColorTheme Edit inline should just give you the form. I don't know details about applying them but color schemes seem quite easy to create (you just need to "see" hexa colors ;) ). My bad, I forgot to copy some files when doing the upgrade to 2.0M3 on the incubator. Inline editing should now display color pickers for all fields, so you don't even need to "see" hexcolors.
In the (near) future there will be a preview button.
In the (not so near) future there might be a live preview.
Wow, that's really cool :)
Do we have an idea how/where we'd like to integrate this color scheme screen in the default XE? A customize link next to the Skin in the Presentation admin screen? Do we have a solution for not hardcoding this link?
I added a new field to the XWikiPreferences class (colorTheme) which allows to select (from a <select> element) the color theme to use (at the space and wiki level). Also adding it to the Presentation admin section, below the Skin field.

Thanks -Vincent
I added a way to change the theme in the user profile. There is a select that contains all the existing themes. To add a new theme to the list, create one, and then add it to the "colorTheme" peroperty, in the "XWiki.XWikiUsers" class. Raluca.
