Hi Julien,
The xwiki.log file is defined in the log4j.properties file located in your main xwiki JAR. There's no absolute nor relative path defined for it which means it'll be created in the directory from where you have started Tomcat.
Hope it helps, -Vincent

hi everyone,
i'm trying to set up latest xwiki version on a debian/tomcat/ mysql platform :)
the xwiki webapp can't be deployed by Tomcat, and the tomcat log says :
##
Jan 22, 2007 3:18:12 PM org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig deployDirectory SEVERE: Error deploying web application directory xwiki org.apache.commons.logging.LogConfigurationException: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError (Caused by java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError)
[snip]
It tells me that it can't write the xwiki.log file, but I don't know where this file has to be, so I could give the right permissions on the filesystem !!
(I suppose that the owner of this file is the tomcat user)

Hi Vincent,
I can't find any log4j.properties file in the archive xwiki-1.0- beta-2.war.
But I have found one in the xwiki-1.0-beta-2.jar archive ?
Yes. As I said it was in the xwiki JAR...
Do I need that archive for a basic use ?
Yes. You need everything in the WAR!
Moreover, there is no directive in this file which tells me where the xwiki.log is written ...
I already answered this question, please check my last email.
Thanks -Vincent
Hi vincent (and the others !),
according to the doc ( http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/ AdminGuide/InstallationTomcat ), only the xwiki-1.0-beta-2.war file is needed with the Tomcat container, isn't it ?
The doc is correct :-)
If not, in which folder do i need to extract xwiki-1.0-beta-2.jar ? [TOMCAT_HOME]/webapps/xwiki/ ? [TOMCAT_HOME]/webapps/xwiki/WEB-INF/ ?
Why would you need to extract any file???
Moreover, I stop/start tomcat with the default /etc/init.d/tomcat55 script. Even calling it from [TOMCAT_LOG_FOLDER] doens't solve the problem, I always got this " java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission xwiki.log write)" in my [TOMCAT_LOG_FOLDER]/catalina_$DATE ...
Maybe I miss something :)
You're starting xwiki under a given user. Try creating a file in the directory where you're starting xwiki with that user. My guess is that you won't have the rights. -Vincent ___________________________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Mail rinvente le mail ! Dcouvrez le nouveau Yahoo!
