Posting a new entry in a category

I am trying to post a new entry in a category after the category has been selected from the main page. It appears that I have to select the category again (double click) from the pull down menu in the form page; otherwise, the article extract appears only in the main page and not the category page. This is superfluous action requirement on the part of the poster and prone to omission. Any work-around?
